We are thrilled to share that a groundbreaking paper, “A Single-Cell-Resolution Spatial Transcriptomic Atlas Decodes Wheat Spike Development and Yield Potential,” has been published in Molecular Plant!

This remarkable study was a collaborative effort between the Crop Molecular Breeding and Cell Biology Research Team from Peking University Institute of Modern Agriculture and the Plant Cell Totipotency Research Team from Shandong Agricultural University.

By integrating spatial transcriptomics and single-cell sequencing, the team constructed a high-resolution spatiotemporal expression atlas of Chinese Spring wheat spike development (W2.0–W3.5 stages) and built a comprehensive database. The research systematically reveals cell-type composition, hormone expression profiles, and transcription factor activity during spike development. Through multi-omics integration, key cell populations and gene modules regulating wheat spike architecture were identified—providing vital data to support functional gene discovery and genetic improvement for yield potential.

A notable highlight: The spatial transcriptome sequencing was powered by BMKMANU S1000 and S3000 platforms, independently developed by BMKGENE!

This achievement underscores how innovative genomics tools can drive crop improvement and sustainable agriculture.

Congratulations to all the researchers involved!
