Featured Publication 4.14Citrus plants are super interesting for scientists studying asexual reproduction, thanks to a gene called RWP. This gene controls the formation of extra embryos without fertilization. Researchers used a fast-growing citrus relative to look at how DNA accessibility changes during this process. They found that in plants with more embryos, a specific part of the RWP gene is more accessible and active.

By tweaking the gene, they could reduce embryo numbers or cause abnormal growth. This gene can even make normal cells start forming embryos again! This study not only helps us understand citrus reproduction better but also opens up new possibilities for plant bioengineering.
