Single-Cell and Spatial Transcriptomics Reveal Maize Immune Regulatory Networks Against Southern Corn Rust
A recent study published in Advanced Science on March 16, 2026, titled “Integrated Single-Cell and Spatial Transcriptomics Reveal Cell-type-specific Immune Regulatory Networks in Maize Responding to Southern Corn Rust”, provides important insights into maize defense mechanisms against southern corn rust.
Using BMKGENE’s single-nucleus transcriptome sequencing and BMKMANU S1000 spatial transcriptome sequencing and analysis services, the research team constructed a high-resolution spatiotemporal atlas of maize leaves during immune response. The study mapped transcriptional dynamics across eight leaf cell types, identified the core roles of epidermal and mesophyll cells in early immunity, and highlighted ZmXET1 and ZmRBG as key resistance-associated genes.
These findings provide valuable molecular resources for understanding cell-type-specific immune regulation in maize and may support future disease-resistant breeding strategies.
BMKGENE is pleased to have supported this study by providing single-nucleus transcriptome and spatial transcriptome sequencing and analysis services.
